Entry Requirements:

Grade 4 in GCSE English Language or GCSE English Literature and
Grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics and
Grade 4 in GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry or GCSE Physics or grade 4/4 in GCSE Combined Science

Course Overview:

The UK is facing a skills shortage in STEM subjects. This means that there are plenty of opportunities for those who have skills in these subject areas. Science lies at the core of STEM, providing you with analytical and problem solving skills, teaching you to think, investigate and come up with solutions. This BTEC is a vocational qualification which is designed for post 16 learners wanting to continue their education through applied learning; who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, possibly in the health sector.

The course has been designed to help you develop the skills and techniques needed to be employed. 

Exam Information:

Duration:  2 years 
Exam Board: Pearson

Total of 4 units for two years

Year 1:   

Principles  and applications  of Science I—exam based
Practical Scientific procedures and techniques—coursework bases

Year 2:

Science Investigation—exams based
One other unit—coursework based

Qualification Gained: 

BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Applied Science. This is the same size as 1 A Level. 

Career Opportunities: 

Engineering, Nursing, Radiography, Biomedical Science, Pharmacology, Nutrition. Some students may progress to an apprenticeship or directly into employment such as laboratory work. Employers highly value the skills gained by science students.
